Kota Bahru - food in the city, Kelantan Malaysia

Cikgu Nasi Ulam

On the ground floor is a local Malay food restaurant that sells great Malay food and where one can try the selection of Ulam. The food is cheap here too and well worth the wait - it gets very crowded during lunch hours. Self service food; help yourself to the variety of curries, grilled fish, ulam, vegetables etc and find yourself a table and someone will come take your orders for drinks and provide you with a tab. Service is good too. Typical Kelantan hospitality!
Kampung Kraftangan, Jalan Hilir Kota, 15300, Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia
Open: Daily 10.30am - 5.00pm . Closed Fridays

Kedai Kopi White House

This is the place to go for a bit of all round breakfast , from toast and kaya or coconut jam to the local Kelantan speciality such as nasi dagang , nasi ikan tongkol , nasi tumpang etc. It is clearly a place where all transcends race and creed. Leave that obnoxious prejudices at the doormat and perhaps you will enjoy the environ more. And let's just face it, KL folks can sometimes exhibit deplorable behaviour when they travel out of the city.

Mak Sun Nab Nasi Air

This is very much a culinary unique to Kelantan and me thinks it is as such an influence based on the Chinese who, mind you were in these lands a lot longer than the local history books have recorded. Influence could also well be from Champa in Cambodia and Siam as there were constant expansion and constriction of empire borders in early Asian civilisation .
From my understanding, nasi air really is porridge or broth - rice in water as it is translated literally. It is a joy to give your tummy a little break if you have had a deluge of heavy kelantan food recently, and nasi air is it.

South Korea : Jeju

Jeju Island  (제주도,濟州島) , formerly  Cheju Island , is an island off the southern coast of  South Korea , in the Korea Strait, southwest of Jeollanam-do Province, of which it was a part before it became a separate province in 1946, and more recently Korea's first and only Special Autonomous Province. Its capital is  Jeju City . Understand Jeju Island, also known as the "Island of the Gods," is a popular vacation spot for Koreans and foreigners. It remains the top honeymoon destination for Korean newlyweds. Despite attempts to market the island as "the Hawaii of Korea," climatologically and geographically it bears little in similarity to the Hawaiian Islands in the U.S. The island offers visitors a wide range of activities: hiking on Halla-san (South Korea's highest peak) or Olle-gil(routes), catching sunrises and sunsets over the ocean, riding horses, touring all the locales from a favorite television K-drama, or just lying around on the sandy beaches. ...
