Seoul Forest, one of the largest ecological parks located in Seoul, unveiled its Butterfly Garden on April 22, 2014.
The Butterfly Garden in Seoul Forest gives visitors a chance to witness the different stages of a butterfly’s transformation from the larva to the imago (adult stage). Caterpillar host plants such as amur cork trees, prickly ash trees and kale, as well as butterfly nectar plants such as canola blossoms, lantana and tiger lilies, can also be found in the garden.
The garden has 10 rare butterfly species. In the spring, visitors can see about 3,000 butterflies including the African Monarch (Danaus chrysippus) and the Alpine Black Swallowtail (Papilio maackii).
Other ecological parks in Korea that have a butterfly garden include Namhae Butterfly Park, Ulsan Grand Park and Hampyeong Ecological Park.
