HADITH | Traveling For Knowledge

Kathir ibn Qays said: I was sitting with Abu Darda in the mosque of Damascus. A man came to him and said: Abu Darda, I have come to you from the town of the Apostle of Allah for a tradition that I have heard you relate from the Apostle of Allah . I have come for no other purpose. He said: I heard the Apostle of Allah say: If anyone travels on a road in search of knowledge, Allah will cause him to travel on one of the roads of Paradise. The angels will lower their wings in their great pleasure with one who seeks knowledge, the inhabitants of the heavens and the Earth and the fish in the deep waters will ask forgiveness for the learned man. The superiority of the learned man over the devout is like that of the moon, on the night when it is full, over the rest of the stars. The learned are the heirs of the Prophets, and the Prophets leave neither dinar nor dirham, leaving only knowledge, and he who takes it takes an abundant portion. Reflections of a traveller

Ramadan reflections: Day 18 Alhamdulillah today was the 3rd day of Ramadan. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala accept our fasts, ameen! This month is the month of the Qur'an. The Qur'an was revealed to our beloved prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihe wa sallam in this month. It is highly recommended to recite and ponder upon the Qura'n during this month. There are so many people who will be completing the recitation of the whole Qur'an during this month. Some will even do it twice/thrice or more than that. But how many of us will try understand what Allah subhana wa ta'ala is telling us through His Book? I think, this is the only Book which lots of people recite but don't really understand what its talking about. Even a kid who reads any book wants to find out what the author is talking about in his book. But we are quite pleased with ourselves if we can just manage to recite the Qur'an during this blessed month! Do we really have any excuse in f

What’s it like to travel to Istanbul during Ramadan for non-Muslims?

I planned my  train trip to Istanbul  somewhere in January and wasn’t going to travel to Istanbul until June. It never crossed my mind to check when the Ramadan would be and I was surprised to see it marked on a calendar for May and June 2017. I would travel to Istanbul during Ramadan. I travelled many times to Turkey but never during Ramadan. What would that be like? Of course I went and had an amazing time during Ramadan in Istanbul and I’d like to share my experiences as a non-Muslim traveller to Istanbul during Ramadan. Want to be prepared? Check when is  Ramadan  (in Istanbul and the rest of the world) for the next years. Travel to Istanbul, Turkey Istanbul, the only city in the world on two continents. There is the European part and the Asian part. Divided by the Bosporus it connects the sea of Marmara with the Black Sea. Once the capital of the Roman and Ottoman Empire, now the biggest city in Turkey (but not the capital). Istanbul is for many people a great introducti
